About

The Goethe-Institut serves as the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, operating on a global scale. Its mission includes the promotion of German language study abroad and the facilitation of international cultural exchange. In this capacity, it actively advocates for mutual understanding between Germany, Europe, and the rest of the world, with its foundational framework agreement established in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office. The Goethe-Institut offers a wealth of information about the rich cultural and societal tapestry of Germany and Europe on a global scale. This mission is carried out through a network of 158 Goethe-Instituts spanning 98 countries, alongside numerous partner institutions. The Federal Foreign Office lends institutional support to their endeavors. Operating as a registered charity, the Goethe-Institut maintains its autonomy with a legally independent status, free from affiliation with any political party. Financially, the organization sustains itself through various means, including revenue generated from language courses and examinations, which contribute to approximately one-third of their income.
