Extracurricular Activities

The primary purpose of sports is to instill teamwork, collaboration and diligence – in addition, of course, to health and happiness. Athletics programs and teams are available at all academic levels and degrees of experience. Whether your son or daughter desires to pursue an athletic scholarship, or simply to join in fun with others, there is an activity for everyone at The Akhnaton School.

We believe that every student should be encouraged to join in activities as an integral part of their holistic education, and we provide a diversity of opportunities meant to appeal to, and enhance, each child’s education experience.

The sports offered on our campuses range from competitive running, swimming, and dodgeball, to basketball, football, handball, volleyball and gymnastics. Both friendly tournaments and competitive opportunities are also available. Notable is our football league, which competes across the region each year and has gained a formidable notoriety.

During the Renaissance, artists were licensed and bonded professionals, just as lawyers and doctors are today. Yet, the stature of creatives is now higher than ever before, albeit through formats of architecture, marketing, cinema and even carefully worded corporate communications and software code.

We believe in making the broadest array of arts accessible so as to encourage our students to become comfortable with their creative sides. Arts electives are a supplement to each stage of scholastic progress, encompassing a broad range of media and methods designed to promote the creative spirit at every age.

From digital formats to sculpture, our artistic programs are very popular as a means of expressing the creative brain. We fundamentally believe that everyone desires and needs creativity, and it is the mission of our campus to promote the holistic progress of each student, including a passion for the arts.

Specific programs include an expansive clay sculpting and crafting studio, a theatre program, a visual arts program, and an elective series in other forms of performance art, including persuasive argument debate.

Clubs and activities are the vehicle by which every student is able to find their own tribe. Facilitating a sense of belonging is paramount to the psychological safety required for a developing mind to flourish. At The Akhnaton School we find that the average student becomes a member of multiple clubs and activities through their scholastic career, and we encourage each student to participate in a variety of activities from each of these categories:

Sports
From club sports to friendly games, there is something available for each student. Our sports programs include swimming, football, basketball, handball, volleyball and competitive running. All opportunities are made equally available to men and women, special arrangements are provided as needed to accommodate special needs.

Community
Students are actively encouraged to become responsible stewards of their own communities through civic outreach and seminars. Here, students can partake in an interest while helping others, teaching them the value of selfless hard work. Programs include cultural, ethical, and environmental seminars.

Skills
Our students are actively encouraged to hone their skills with clubs that bring forth natural talents and sharpen their abilities while they have fun. Clubs and activities are available for reading, gaming, debate, performing arts, dance, drama, music and many others as our children either express a need, or our faculty determines a useful trend.

There is only so much that can be learned from the inside of a book. The Akhnaton School offers real, hands-on experiences in a series of off-campus excursions throughout the year with programming designed to supplement students’ educational progression.

The heads of each department are empowered to organize leisure and educational trips designed to augment the in-classroom experience:

Educational trips
From museums to guided tours through real ancient ruins, the cultural experience available to us outside of our campus are rich with history. Our students are able to experience this first-hand through a series of trips that bring their history and science books alive.

Leisure trips
To help our students unwind, a number of trips occur throughout the year to help students connect with nature and with their community. These experiences include park exploration and guided tours through recreational experiences.
