About

In the year 1700 A.D., Bishop Gabriel Belouzani took the initiative to dispatch a group of devout individuals to establish a religious community near the Monastery of Mar Chaya in the Broumana region. This group consisted of Father Sleiman Hage from Mechmech, Friar Atallah from Beit Chabab, Father Boutros Mouannes from Bazoun, and Friar Moussa from Baabdate. Their mission was to lead a life of devotion, following the coenobitic rules and setting an exemplary path for those who wished to join them in worshiping God Almighty. Within two years, three more esteemed individuals, namely Reverend Fathers Boutros Ataya from Sahel Alma, Ibrahim Youassaf from Aramoun – Kesrouan, and Semaan Arid from Qtalé, decided to follow suit. Witnessing their exemplary conduct and their commitment to expanding their religious order, the late Patriarch of Antioch, Mar Stephan Doueihy of Ehden, recognized their devotion and officially confirmed their vows and statuses through his patriarchal authority. Subsequent Patriarchs who succeeded him in the Antioch See, including Mar Gabriel Belouzani, Mar Yacoub Aouad of Haroun, and Mar Youssef El-Khazen, also bestowed their blessings upon the community. These Patriarchs, acknowledging the Order's impeccable reputation and the manifold benefits it brought to the community through its preaching, virtuous conduct, evangelical efforts, and the establishment of schools in the monasteries, granted their formal approval. They commended the Order for its unwavering adherence to the teachings of the Church and its alignment with pastoral principles. Consequently, the Order received widespread recognition and admiration from both leaders and the general populace, serving as a model for all Oriental Churches.
